The FONTANELLA subwoofer satellite system is both visually and accoustically a completely new experience. The drivers in the satellites are arranged to project the sound upwards. Two specially shaped cones reflect the sound according to specific patterns to ensure that the sound is distributed horizontally and uniformly in all directions.
The mid-bass unit is the AL 130 M 8 Ohm, and the tweeter range is covered by the DT 94 8 Ohm.
This diffused sound distribution means that the impressive spatial effect is virtually uniform all round the room. Virtual sound sources, for example the voices or instruments that appear between the speakers, can be clearly and precisely located. The depth of colour of the sound remains the same at any seating position in the whole room. Ideally, the satellites should be positioned 0.5 m to 1 m away from a wall and on a base or stand. The cones should then be at ear level or slightly below.
The passive subwoofer cabinet has been designed to match the satellites and is fitted with the GF 200 2 x 4 Ohm double voice-coil woofer; resulting in powerful, highly dynamic bass reproduction from this high-end driver.
The FONTANELLA system provides a high level of listening pleasure as a hifi stereo system but is also extremely well suited to use as the rear effect channel in home-video systems. In such cases, the subwoofer is not required and the two satellites are used alone.
Speaker stands: Spikes 4 piece
The FONTANELLA satellite cabinet consists of 8 side pieces 16 mm thick with bevels and a base and top both octagonal and made of 19 mm material.
First, cut out the openings in the base and top. Then the side pieces and base are glued together. Before fitting the top, cut-out and finish the four openings in the sides for the fixing points and connection points for the upper part. Next fix the top and attach the connection points for the conical upper part (refer to detailed instructions). The crossover is part of the terminal unit and is fitted to the base.
The upper part of this speaker system consists of a large cone over the mid-bass unit and a smaller one over the tweeter. The large cone is connected to the bass cabinet via the four brass brackets at the connection points. Two of these brackets are simultaneously used as signal carriers to the tweeter, which itself is integrated in the large cone. The small tweeter cone is stuck onto the diffuser of the tweeter. Once the upper part has been completed, and the tweeter has been connected up to the right connections (look for the solder points), the cabinet is completed by attaching the upper part.
The kit contains all the components marked as "essential components". The cones are also available ready made.
Half a mat of damping material is used for each satellite cabinet.
