Description

The SC 5 has a small polycarbonate dome and a shielded magnet system, so it can work close to a screen, with a balanced response and excellent dispersion. Visaton's suggested partner is the shielded F 8 SC full-range driver. This 8 Ω version takes 60 W with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass from 6000 Hz, gives 90 dB (1 W/1 m) and resonates at 2000 Hz.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 48 mm panel opening. The square faceplate is 51.5 mm across, with 4 mm holes at the corners on a 59.5 mm circle; mark them from the unit itself rather than assuming the spacing. Behind the panel allow about 22.5 mm for the 48 mm rear housing, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the faceplate and the panel, tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the faceplate is not distorted, and keep the dome clear of any grille. Connect to the 5.2 x 0.5 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.5 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the two blade widths identify it. The power ratings apply only with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass filter from 6000 Hz, so feed it through the system crossover or a high-pass filter that gives at least that protection; never connect it directly to a full-range signal. A dome this small depends on that filter to survive, so keep the slope steep. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load. The driver is magnetically shielded, so it can be used in centre, multimedia and near-screen speakers.
