Description

The SC 13 pairs a cellulose cone with a rubber surround and is magnetically shielded, so it can work close to a screen; its even response lets it run full-range or as the low-midrange of a shielded two-way alongside the SC 10 N tweeter. This 8 Ω version takes 40 W rated power, gives 90 dB (1 W/1 m) and resonates at 78 Hz.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 113 mm panel opening. The frame is 131 mm square, with 5 x 7 mm fixing slots at the corners on a 145 mm circle; mark them from the driver itself rather than assuming the spacing. Behind the panel allow about 61 mm for the 113 mm basket and the 77.5 mm magnet, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the frame and the panel, and tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the frame is not distorted. With ±7.5 mm of travel available, check that the cone and the surround stay clear of any grille and of internal bracing at full excursion. Connect to the 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the two blade widths identify it, and use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load. The driver is magnetically shielded, so it can be used in multimedia and surround speakers close to a screen.

Visaton's published enclosure suggestions for this driver: 10 l closed (fc 103 Hz, Qtc 0.94); 20 l closed (fc 91 Hz, Qtc 0.83).
