Description

The MHT 12 has an aluminium die-cast front and a light diaphragm whose large area and low self-resonance make it usable from 4000 Hz, with neodymium boron magnets giving high efficiency and low distortion. Its magnets are screened. This 8 Ω version is rated at 100 W with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass from 4000 Hz, gives 91 dB (1 W/1 m) and covers 2000–40000 Hz.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 95 mm panel opening. The faceplate is 112 mm square with clipped corners and takes four 4 mm fixing screws countersunk to 8 mm on an 85 x 84 mm rectangle; mark them from the unit itself rather than assuming the spacing. Behind the panel allow about 46 mm for the 94 mm round housing, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the faceplate and the panel, tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the faceplate is not distorted, and keep the diaphragm clear of any grille. Connect to the 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the two blade widths identify it. The power ratings apply only with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass filter from 4000 Hz, so feed it through the system crossover or a high-pass filter that gives at least that protection; never connect it directly to a full-range signal. It is usable from 4000 Hz upwards, so do not cross it over below that point and keep the slope steep. The magnet system is shielded. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load.
