The DSM 50 FFL has a rigid, ultra-light titanium dome and a heavily damped surround, giving a linear response free of partial oscillations, while the ferrofluid-filled gap and compensating magnet provide high efficiency and power handling. This 8 Ω version is rated at 120 W with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass from 800 Hz, gives 90 dB (1 W/1 m) and resonates at 430 Hz.
Typical applications
- Dome midrange in multi-way systems
- Midrange in three-way hi-fi speakers
- High-end hi-fi systems

Installation and cabinet guidance
Allow a 106 mm panel opening. The faceplate is 130 mm across the flats with clipped corners, and gives a choice of fixing patterns: four 4.4 mm holes at the corners on a 150 mm circle, or four alternative holes on the axes on a 126 mm circle. Behind the panel allow about 48 mm for the 100 mm rear housing, plus room for the terminals and the wiring. Mark whichever pattern you use from the unit itself, and confirm the depth available before committing to a slim cabinet.
Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the faceplate and the panel, tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the faceplate is not distorted, and keep the dome clear of any grille. Connect to the 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the two blade widths identify it. The power ratings apply only with a 12 dB/oct. high-pass filter from 800 Hz, so feed it through the system crossover or a high-pass filter that gives at least that protection; never connect it directly to a full-range signal. At 1.26 kg it is heavy for a dome, so make sure the baffle and the fixings can carry it. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load.
