The EX 45 S is an electrodynamic exciter with no cone of its own: it sets a panel vibrating in bending waves so that the panel radiates the sound. It is glued or screwed to a panel whose material, size and shape decide the result, so it needs more amplifier power than a conventional speaker. This 8 Ω version takes 10 W maximum long-term power (DIN EN 60268-5).
Typical applications
- Concealed sound output through panels
- Signal output where a visible speaker is unwanted
- Installations exposed to weather or vandalism

Installation and cabinet guidance
The EX 45 S has a 46 mm square mounting plate, 1 mm thick, with four 4.1 mm fixing holes on 38 x 38 mm centres; the 45 mm diameter body stands 16.5 mm proud of the panel, and the terminal block extends a further 21 mm beyond one edge of the plate. Fix the whole plate solidly to a clean, flat, rigid area of the panel, either with screws through the four holes or with a suitable adhesive; the matching adhesive pad is Pad EX 45 S (part 4555), 3M GPH-060GF. Clean and degrease the area first, and press the plate down evenly over its whole face.
The sound comes from the panel, so its material, size, shape and fixing decide the result, and no frequency response or sensitivity is published for the exciter on its own. Light, rigid, non-magnetic panels work best, and a position slightly off centre usually gives good results. Test positions with ordinary double-sided tape before fixing permanently, keep other objects from touching the panel, and expect less bass when the panel hangs close to a wall.
Connect to the 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors; the different blade widths identify the polarity. Any normal amplifier suitable for an 8 Ω load will drive it; keep the drive within the 10 W maximum long-term power (DIN EN 60268-5). Route the cable so that it cannot rattle against the panel, padding it with foam if necessary, and leave enough slack that it cannot pull on the terminals. Operating temperature range −25 to 70 °C.
This is the 8 Ω version; the 4 Ω version is part 4503. Check the impedance against the amplifier before ordering.
