Description

The W 100 X combines a low resonance with a compact frame, and its wide, elastic rubber surround allows plenty of cone travel from a metal basket that is easy to fit. The 2 x 4 Ω dual voice coil can be wired for 4 Ω, 8 Ω or 2 Ω, and it takes 40 W rated power with resonance at 63 Hz.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 97 mm panel opening. The frame is 116 mm in diameter, with 4.4 mm fixing holes on a 108 mm circle; mark them from the driver itself rather than assuming the spacing. Leave about 58 mm behind the panel for the basket and the 80 mm magnet housing, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the frame and the panel, tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the frame is not distorted, and keep the cone clear of any grille. With ±7.5 mm of travel available, check that the cone and the surround stay clear of the grille and of any internal bracing at full excursion. The two voice coils have separate 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals: use one coil alone for a 4 Ω load, both coils in series for 8 Ω, or both in parallel for 2 Ω, and make sure the amplifier is rated for the load you choose. Observe polarity on both coils so they move together; the coils can also be driven separately, for example from the rear channels of a car radio.

Visaton's published enclosure suggestions for this driver: 1.3 l closed (fc 105 Hz, Qtc 0.7); 3 l bass reflex with a round port 36 mm in diameter and 250 mm long (fb 62 Hz).
