Description

The SL 87 FE uses a large ferrite magnet, plastic cone and rubber surround for balanced music and speech reproduction. It handles 10 W rated power at 8 Ω, with an 87 dB sensitivity. Compared with the neodymium SL 87 ND, this version is heavier and deeper, with its own enclosure parameters and frequency response.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow for an 80 mm opening and 84.4 mm square frame. Leave room for the 49 mm overall depth, large rear magnet and projecting connectors. Support the heavier 486 g assembly on a rigid panel.

Seal the mounting joint into a sealed enclosure and protect the rear and terminals from moisture. IP64 applies to the front only; adhesive and a front grille may be needed to complete the seal.

Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load and follow the polarity marks. Check blade width and thickness before choosing connectors, insulate the connections and secure the wiring clear of the moving parts.

Use this impedance version’s enclosure parameters when developing a cabinet, and test the response at the intended listening level. Allow for the volume occupied by the driver and keep damping material clear of the cone and terminals.
