Description

The TIW 300 combines a black cellulose diaphragm with a heavy cast aluminium basket and large-format magnet, and multiple venting of the voice coil and spider keeps losses and flow noise down. The 65 mm voice coil on a Kapton former allows very high levels. This 8 Ω version handles 300 W rated power, resonates at 25 Hz and allows ±16 mm of excursion.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 288 mm panel opening for a 329 mm frame, with the fixing holes on a 312.5 mm circle and 6.5 mm holes countersunk to 11 mm. Behind the panel leave about 143 mm of clear depth for the basket and the 180 mm magnet, with room beyond that for the terminals and the wiring.

At 7 kg this driver needs a substantial, well braced baffle and a second pair of hands to fit. Use a continuous gasket or sealing strip between the frame and the panel and tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal, so the cast frame is not distorted. With ±16 mm of travel available, check that the cone and the surround stay clear of the grille and of any internal bracing at full excursion. Connections are by spring terminals, so strip only as much insulation as the clamp needs, make sure each conductor is gripped firmly, observe polarity and use an amplifier or crossover suited to the 8 Ω load.

Visaton's published enclosure suggestions for this driver: 50 l bass reflex with one BR 25.50 port (fb 31 Hz); 70 l bass reflex with two BR 25.50 ports (fb 36 Hz); 100 l bass reflex with one BR 25.50 port cut to 7 cm (fb 35 Hz); 150 l bass reflex with one BR 25.50 port cut to 3.5 cm (fb 34 Hz).
