Description

The W 130 X pairs a robust polypropylene cone with a lot of cone travel for its size, so this 13 cm driver suits very compact subwoofers. Its 2 x 4 Ω dual voice coil can be wired for 4 Ω, 8 Ω or 2 Ω, and it takes 60 W rated power, with resonance at 40 Hz and a ±11.5 mm excursion limit.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow a 123 mm panel opening for a 148.2 mm frame, with 4.3 mm fixing holes on a 141 mm circle. Behind the panel the driver needs about 69.2 mm of clear depth for the basket and the 100 mm magnet, with room beyond that for the terminals and the wiring. It weighs 1.5 kg for a 13 cm driver, so a braced baffle is worth the trouble.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous gasket or sealing strip between the frame and the panel, and tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the frame is not distorted. With ±11.5 mm of travel available, check that the cone and the surround stay clear of the grille and of any internal bracing at full excursion. The two voice coils have their own terminals, taking 4.8 x 0.8 mm blades on the positive side and 2.8 x 0.8 mm on the negative: use one coil alone for a 4 Ω load, both coils in series for 8 Ω, or both in parallel for 2 Ω, and make sure the amplifier is rated for the load you choose. Observe polarity on both coils so they pull together; Visaton rates the series 8 Ω connection particularly highly.

Visaton's published enclosure suggestions for this driver: 2.3 l closed (fc 70 Hz, Qtc 0.71); 7.5 l bass reflex with a slot port (fb 38 Hz); confirm the port dimensions and units before construction.
