Description

The SC 3.7 ND WP is a 3 x 7 cm oval full-range driver with a balanced response and clear high range, made very small by a neodymium magnet system for built-in use in TVs and PCs. It has a moisture-resistant membrane and metal construction, and is rated IPX4 at the front when built into a sealed enclosure. This 8 Ω version handles 3 W and weighs 24.5 g.

Installation and cabinet guidance

No cut-out is published for this driver: the frame is 30.5 x 70 mm with four 3.5 mm fixing holes on 23.5 x 63.3 mm centres. Size the opening from the unit itself, and mark the holes rather than assuming the spacing. The unit is 18.8 mm deep overall, with an 18 mm neodymium magnet, so allow room behind for the solder connections.

The IPX4 protection applies to the front of the driver only, and only when it is built into a sealed enclosure; the rear is open to the enclosure. Mount on a flat panel with a continuous seal around the frame and protect the rear from water and dust; bonding the driver in and fitting a front cover or grille may be needed to complete the protection. Tighten the fixings evenly so the frame is not distorted. Operating temperature range −20 to 70 °C.

Solder to the solder lugs (2.4 x 0.3 mm), observe polarity and keep the leads clear of the moving parts. Use a suitable iron and keep the soldering time short so that heat is not conducted into the driver. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load and keep the drive within the 3 W rating.
