Description

The FRS 7 XWP is a 6.5 cm full-range speaker with a balanced response and very good highs, optimised for small closed and bass-reflex enclosures. Power and excursion reserves keep the quality up even in the bass. Its IP64 protection applies to the front when it is built into a sealed enclosure; this 8 Ω version handles 10 W and gives 81 dB (1 W/1 m).

Installation and cabinet guidance

No cut-out is published for this driver: the frame is 66.5 mm square (75.1 mm across the corners) with four 4.5 x 6 mm fixing slots on 53 x 53 mm centres and a 60.5 mm cone opening. Size the opening from the unit itself, and mark the slots rather than assuming the spacing. The unit is 41.5 mm deep overall including the 2.5 mm flange, with a 62 mm magnet 22 mm long, so allow room behind for the terminals and the wiring.

The IP64 protection applies to the front of the driver only, and only when it is built into a sealed enclosure; the rear is open to the enclosure. Mount on a flat panel with a continuous seal and protect the rear from water and dust; bonding the driver in and fitting a front cover or grille may be needed to complete the protection. Tighten the fixings evenly so the flange is not distorted. A matching grille, part 2312, is available. Operating temperature range −40 to 85 °C.

Connect to the 2.8 x 0.5 mm/2.8 x 0.5 mm blade terminals with matching push-on connectors; both blades are the same size, so follow the + and - marks on the rear label. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load and keep the drive within the 10 W rating.
