Description

The B 80 combines a coated paper cone, a rear-ventilated spider and a phase plug with a strong but light neodymium magnet, which together give a very even response with low distortion and low mechanical losses. This 8 Ω version handles 30 W rated power, gives 85 dB (1 W/1 m) and resonates at 110 Hz.

Installation and cabinet guidance

Allow an 89 mm panel opening. The frame is 104 mm in diameter, with 4 mm fixing holes countersunk to 7 mm on a 95 mm circle; mark them from the driver itself rather than assuming the spacing. Behind the panel allow about 45.6 mm for the 87 mm basket and the 41 mm magnet, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

Mount it on a rigid baffle with a continuous seal between the frame and the panel, tighten the fixings evenly and only enough to seal so the frame is not distorted, and keep the cone clear of any grille. Connect to the 5.2 x 0.5 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.5 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the two blade widths identify it. These are narrow 0.5 mm blades, so fit push-on connectors made for that size rather than forcing a larger one on, and use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load.

How low it plays depends on the enclosure volume and tuning, so test the driver in the intended enclosure at the intended listening level before finalising the cabinet. Linear travel is limited to 2.2 mm, so it will not take being driven hard at the bottom of its range.
