Description

The FRS 5 XWP is a slim 5 cm full-range speaker with a black metal basket, and its low resonance takes the response down to 120 Hz. This waterproof version has a PET cone, Mylar dust cap and rubber gasket, rated IP65 and IP67 at the front when built into a sealed enclosure. The UV-resistant 8 Ω unit handles 5 W and gives 86 dB (1 W/1 m).

Installation and cabinet guidance

No cut-out is published for this driver: the round frame is 52.5 mm in diameter and carries two diagonally opposed fixing lugs, 68 mm overall, with 4.2 mm holes 60 mm apart. Size the opening from the unit itself and leave a flat, clear seating for both lugs. Behind the 1.5 mm flange allow about 33.5 mm for the body and its 45 mm magnet, plus room for the terminals and the wiring.

The IP65 and IP67 protection applies to the front of the driver only, and only when it is built into a sealed enclosure; the rear is open to the enclosure. Compress the fitted rubber gasket evenly against a flat panel and protect the rear from water and dust; bonding the driver in and fitting a front cover or grille may be needed to complete the protection. Fit the gasket dry, tighten the fixings evenly so the frame is not distorted, and run the cable so that water cannot track along it into the enclosure. Operating temperature range −25 to 70 °C.

Connect to the 4.8 x 0.8 mm (+)/2.8 x 0.8 mm (-) blade terminals with matching push-on connectors and observe polarity; the blades differ in width, so the wider blade identifies the positive. Use an amplifier suitable for the 8 Ω load and keep the drive within the 5 W rating. For a 100 V PA system, connect through a suitable line transformer; do not connect the driver directly to the line.
